Global contexts and factors affecting Australian Education
The 1990s brought a worldwide awareness of the macroprocess, termed “globalisation”. Wherever people looked, they “saw” globalisation happening whether through global connections, interconnections, and or disconnections. It was seemingly happening all around them economically, culturally, and environmentally. The patterns have not just suddenly appears they have been developing over centuries.
The significance of Globalisation in Australia is the ever increasing rate of multiculturalism and the advances in technology. Each day, more and more people are migrating to Australia; with this rate of migration increasing, Australia’s education system and indeed Australia’s classrooms are becoming more and more culturally diverse. Teachers have to become more aware of the difference between students and the different experiences they come to school with. In today’s society it is not unusual to find a class room with at least 3 or more different cultures present in its students. Also, the range of teachers and educators are becoming more culturally diverse, and many teachers are now migrating to Australia due to the lack of teachers.
